RAIL Sponsors the 2023 WiSTEMGh KNUST Stanbic Girls’ Camp
As part of its mandate to increase female STEM participation, the Responsible AI Lab (RAIL) sponsored the 2023 WiSTEMGh Girls Camp themed “Innovation and Technology for STEM Education in Ghana: Equipping the Girl Child.” The camp aims to create equal opportunities for all girls and to provide improved learning opportunities to boost their interest in STEM education.About 300 students from 23 Senior High Schools in the Ashanti, Bono, Ahafo, and Western North Regionsparticipated in the 2023 edition of the girls’ camp. The five-day event featured presentations and discussions facilitated by researchers, professionals, academics, and students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Through the coordination of the Women in Technology Officer, RAIL, Ing. Dr. Mrs. Eunice Akyereko Adjei, RAIL sponsored three innovative projects as part of the WiSTEMGh Girls Mini-Project Challenge. RAIL provided mentorship, guidance and financial assistance for the projects.
The girls received training and guidance from Kasuadana Sulemana Adams and William Dadzi-Rhule, instructors from KNUST College of Engineering Innovation Center, on developing the project solutions.
The projects included a Smart Home, a Water Quality Checker and a Panic Alert System.
RAIL increased its budget to provide 300 RAIL & WiSTEMGh branded notepads, pens, and folders for the camp in addition to renewing its sponsorship from the previous year. This shows RAIL’s unwavering dedication to advancing gender equity and inclusivity in STEM education.
