The Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab (RAIL) at KNUST celebrates the remarkable achievements of its dedicated Research Assistants who graduated at the University’s 59th Congregation. While completing their rigorous Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programs, they have been instrumental in advancing RAIL’s core mission to develop ethical, sustainable, and human-centred AI technologies. Their research exemplifies our commitment to creating impactful solutions that address real-world challenges.

Ama Branoa Banful, a MPhil graduate in Computer Engineering, conducted research at RAIL, focusing on harnessing AI to build inclusive technologies for underrepresented communities. She played a key role in the I-SEE project, which develops AI-powered tools to assist individuals living with visual impairments. Her work is crucial in creating more accessible digital environments and ensuring that the benefits of AI are accessible to all members of society.

Dickson Marfo Fosu, a MPhil graduate in Telecommunications Engineering, has been a driving force behind innovation in assistive technologies at RAIL. He is a core member of the team developing a smart cane powered by AI and computer vision. This project aims to provide individuals with visual impairments greater independence and accessibility by enabling them to navigate environments more safely and confidently. Dickson’s work is a testament to his dedication to translating responsible AI research into tangible, human-centred solutions.
