Usage & Uptake
The usage and uptake of assistive devices are crucial for enhancing the quality of life for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Our team’s initiative focuses on understanding the factors that influence the acceptance, accessibility, and sustainability of these devices within various communities. We research to identify the barriers that hinder effective use, examining personal, societal, and environmental challenges. We aim to gather insights into the experiences of PWDs with assistive technologies, highlighting both the obstacles they face and the factors that promote successful adoption.
We recognize that stigma, lack of awareness, and insufficient training can significantly deter PWDs from utilizing assistive devices. To address these challenges, we are conducting a thorough investigation into the usage and uptake of assistive technologies among PWDs. Moreover, we collaborate with stakeholders, healthcare providers, policymakers, and manufacturers to enhance the availability, affordability, and customization of assistive devices. By advocating for supportive policies, we aim to ensure that PWDs have access to the necessary assistive devices to thrive. In summary, our work empowers PWDs by improving their understanding of assistive devices and fostering an inclusive environment for their effective use, ultimately supporting their independence and participation in society.
