RAIL Launches Robotics Club in St. Hubert SHS
The Responsible AI Lab (RAIL) has the objective of nurturing and training young talent in responsible AI and robotics. The team launched the RAIL Robotics Club initiative at St. Hubert Senior High School in the Ashanti Region on 14th March 2025.
The initiative aims to equip students with essential skills for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications to address developmental challenges. Also, the focus is to train tutors to make them technologically inclined for enhanced personal development and teaching skills.

During the event, the RAIL team met with the school’s management to discuss the contents of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the club’s operations. Mentors have commenced the training of trainers sessions and due to end in 16 weeks.

The Headmaster, Mr. Eric Adjei, welcomed the team and emphasised the importance of embracing innovation.
“We are all aware that we are moving away from the old and into the new world. The challenges we face require new solutions, and this program will help us integrate innovation into teaching and learning. This initiative will prepare students for the job market and integrate new knowledge into their education,” he said.

Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, PI and Scientific Director of RAIL, spoke about the significance of leveraging AI to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The end goal is to make the world a better place. Through AI, we can accelerate progress in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, energy, education,” he stated.
He also encouraged the students to enhance their digital skills, adding, “It’s important to build your skills to bridge that gap regarding 21st-century skills.

Mr. Albert Frimpong, representing the STMIE Coordinator, also highlighted the importance of implementing RAIL Robotics in the education system.
“This initiative is crucial for preparing students for the future, and I encourage students to make the most of this training,” he noted.

Dr. Kwasi Oteng Gyasi, the Lead Trainer for RAIL Robotics Club, introduced the students to the concepts of AI and ethics, emphasising the potential opportunities in AI. “There are many opportunities in AI, and everyone can pursue it,” he remarked.

Dr. Mrs. Theresah Samuelle Adjaidoo, Women in Technology Theme member at RAIL, officially inaugurated the club and introduced the five mentors: Mr. Ebenezer Dwomoh, Mr. Albert Larbi, Mr. Tawiah Samuel Dankwah, Mr. Seth Yeboah, and Mr. Wisdom Terkper.

Dr. Mrs. Eunice Akyereko Adjei, RAIL’s Women in Technology Officer, congratulated the students and mentors.

Dr. Mrs. Martina Francisca Baidoo, RAIL Women in Technology Theme member, educated the students on the admission requirements for Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and encouraged them to “aim high and work extra hard.”

The club’s inauguration concluded with a training workshop on AI and robotics, held at the school’s ICT lab and led by Dr. Gyasi.
The program, supported by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) and Artificial Intelligence for Development (AI4D), is designed to foster innovation among students through AI-driven solutions.
