The Responsible AI Lab (RAIL), together with the AI for Sustainable Development (AI4SD), presented a series of innovative projects at the inaugural Novembre Numérique festival in Ghana. Hosted at Alliance Française Accra and Leti Arts from November 5th to 7th, the event served as a dynamic platform to demonstrate how RAIL is embedding ethical principles into tangible AI solutions for Ghana’s most pressing challenges.

The three-day exhibition, a key part of the global digital cultures festival, brought together creators, researchers, and innovators to explore the theme of “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Heritage.” RAIL’s display featured innovative projects like SignTalk, Crop Disease Detection Toolbox, Care for Rare Diseases Using AI, and Water Treatment for Galamsey, each exemplifying the lab’s commitment to developing AI that is both impactful and responsible.

A core tenet of RAIL’s mission is education and fostering the next generation of ethical AI practitioners. On the second day of the exhibition, Juliet Arthur, Research Assistant at RAIL, led a highly engaging, hands-on session for students titled “Ethical AI and Open Data for Storytelling.” The workshop empowered participants to harness the power of AI and open data as creative tools, while critically examining the importance of using these technologies responsibly.

Her Excellency Diarra Dimé-Labille, the French Ambassador to Ghana, visited the exhibition and toured the RAIL and AI4SD booths. The Ambassador commended both teams for their innovative work and reaffirmed France’s commitment, through the funding of AI4SD by the French Embassy in Ghana, to supporting digital innovation and sustainability partnerships in the country.

Dr. Kwame Oteng Gyasi, a member of the AI in Education theme, underscored the non-negotiable importance of ethics in artificial intelligence. “Ethical AI must be guided by principles of fairness, inclusivity, transparency, and respect for privacy and security,” he stated—a principle that forms the bedrock of all work at RAIL.

The successful conclusion of Novembre Numérique 2025 marks a significant step in strengthening digital collaboration between Ghana and international partners. For the Responsible AI Lab, it was a vital opportunity to showcase our practical, human-centric approach to artificial intelligence, engage with the community, and champion a future where technology amplifies our shared humanity.
