Official opening of RAIL by the Chancellor of KNUST, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and Chancellor of KNUST, officially commissioned the KNUST Engineering Education Project (KEEP) Postgraduate Building which houses the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab (RAIL) on 17^th March 2023. He was assisted by Ambassador Nana Effah Apenteng, Chairman of Council, KNUST, and Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor, KNUST. 

Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, Project Lead of KEEP, who doubles as the Principal Investigator and Scientific Director of RAIL, took the dignitaries on a tour of the KEEP building and the Responsible AI Lab. 

He said the KEEP building houses state-of-the-art laboratories and teaching facilities for the digital development and energy thematic areas: RAIL, the Power Systems Lab, and the Renewable Energy Lab. He added that there are lecture halls and a postgraduate study room for independent studies. 

The RAIL consortium comprising collaborators in three countries in West Africa (Ghana, Senegal and Carbo Verde), is working to develop talents in the AI ecosystem to spearhead the developmental agenda of the sub-region.
